====Summer Quarter Maintenance====

Fall quarter Maintenance has been schedule for 9/17/2018.   Please check the [[projects:maint-summer-2018|Summer Maint. website]] for updates.  Send email to helpdesk@ics.uci.edu to have maintenance rescheduled.

  * Date:  9/17/2018
  * Time:  All Day

=== Network Switch Firmware Update and Reboot ===

**Affected Hosts:** Large number of ICS Hosts

**Reason:** Switch unresponsive to remote logins.

**Impact:**  These switches provide network connection for a large number of servers.  As the firmware update occurs, except network interruptions of up to 1 hour.  If you have a server that needs uninterrupted network connection, please email helpdesk@ics.uci.edu with the server name and the reason.

=== Relocate john-luther to Critical Rack Cluster ===

**Affected Hosts**:  
  * john-luther.ics.uci.edu
  * ldap3.ics.uci.edu (john-luther-v0.ics.uci.edu)
  * gitlab.ics.uci.edu (john-luther-v1.ics.uci.edu)

**Reason**:   Relocating server to rack with emergency power.

**Impact**:  
  * gitlab will be unavailable during this period.

=== Pedigree/Beem systems to new power ===

**Affected Hosts**:  
  * Pedigree cluster
  * Beem2 and Beem3

**Reason**:  Relocating power to 110V to free up power needed for another project.

**Impact**:  The server will be turned off for about 10-15 minutes while power is rerouted.  This will happen after the servers are patched.  Rather than a reboot, a brief shutdown will occur instead.

=== OS Maintenance ===
**Affected Hosts:** All ICS and IGB CentOS6/7 hosts.

**Reason**: Patching multiple critical vulnerabilities that can lead to loss of sensitive information and allow attackers to preform trivial DDOS exploits.
  * Kernel Side-Channel Attack using L1 Terminal Fault: CVE-2018-3620 and CVE-2018-3646
  * Segmentsmack TCP implementations vulnerable to Denial of Service: CVE-2018-5390 

**Impact**:

Kernel packages updates are required to mitigate these vulnerabilities.  New kernel packages will be installed to all CentOS6/7 followed by a reboot to load the new kernel.

=== KEA DHCPD Server Release ===
**Affected Hosts:** ICS Hosts using DHCP

**Reason**:  Upgrading to ISC KEA DHCP Server.

**Impact**:  Clients should not experience any interuption in service.

===Gitlab Server Downtime===

  * SYSTEM:  Gitlab Server
  * DATE:  September 17, 2018
  * START TIME: 0800
  * DURATION: 2 hours

(Please note this is an estimate;  systems may be up sooner or later 
than expected, due to unforeseeable circumstances.)

During this downtime window, the ICS Gitlab server will be unavailable.  


==REASON:==

The GitLab server will be updated to the latest security release, 11.1.2.

===#68260 MySQL Server Maintenance ===

  * SYSTEM:  melvil-dewey-v0.ics.uci.edu
  * DATE:  September 17, 2018
  * START TIME: 0600
  * DURATION: 15 minutes

(Please note this is an estimate;  systems may be up sooner or later 
than expected, due to unforeseeable circumstances.)

==AFFECTS:==       

During this period the MySQL server will be unavailable.   Any dependent websites, including https://www.ics.uci.edu, and applications will be unavailable.


==REASON:==

A restart is required in order to limit the size of the ibtmp1 caching file.

====VirtualBox 5.2.18 Upgrade #68338: ====

  * SYSTEM:  All ICS Systems
  * DATE:  Sept 14, 2018

Affected Hosts: All ICS hosts

Reason:  Upgrading to the latest version of Virtual Box on all ICS hosts between quarters.

Impact: Running VM's may require a restart.   No other service outage anticipated.


====Vagrant 2.1.4 Upgrade #68338: ====

  * SYSTEM:  All ICS Systems
  * DATE:  Sept 14, 2018

Affected Hosts: All ICS hosts

Reason:  Upgrading to the latest version of Vagrant on all ICS hosts between quarters.

Impact: Running VM's may require a restart.   No other service outage anticipated.
====Odin Emergency Maintenance====

  * SYSTEM:  odin.ics.uci.edu
  * DATE:  Aug 27, 2018
  * START TIME: 1130
  * DURATION: 2 hours

Affected Hosts: odin.ics.uci.edu.

Reason:  Dell Tech will be onsite replacing failed parts.

Impact: 2 hours downtime/interruption on odin host.

This is an estimate and systems may be down longer or back online sooner than estimated.

====Patching Odin====

  * SYSTEM:  Odin Server
  * DATE:  Aug 27, 2018
  * START TIME: 10:00
  * DURATION: 2 hours

Affected Hosts: odin.ics.uci.edu.

Reason: Upgrading the BIOS firmware to fix the CPU error, referring to ticket #68146.

Impact: 2 hours downtime/interruption on odin host.
