====Spring Break Maintenance====

  * Time:  All Day

==Operating System Update and Reboot==

**Affected Hosts**:  All CentOS6, CentOS7, RHEL6, RHEL7, and Ubuntu12 hosts.

**Reason**:   Installation of the latest kernel and security patches that include mitigation for the Meltdown and Spectrev1 vulnerabilities.

**Impact**:  
  * **ALL** ICS managed hosts in the affected groups will recieve the latest OS patches between 3/20 and 3/27.
  * **ALL** ICS hosts will be rebooted between midnight and 1700 on March 27th.

**Exceptions List**:

The following hosts are scheduled to recieve security only updates:

Reason:  Firmware upgrade.  Upgrading OnTAP8 to the latest version.

Affects:  There is no downtime associated with this work, however a small number of users may experience degraded performance on home or extra directories.

== Cybertron/Hitachi Cable Replacement ==

Reason:  Redundantly connect Network Appliance to the Hitachi AMS-2500 via properly  .

Affects:  The following NFS qtrees may be unavailable during this period:

==== Web server migration ====

**REASON:** Websites are being moved to CentOS 7 host.

**AFFECTS:** Subversion (https://svn.ics.uci.edu), Instdav (https://instdav.ics.uci.edu), Trac Wiki (https://grape.ics.uci.edu), and Mailman (https://mailman.ics.uci.edu) will be on new server hosts.


==== Sensoria-mysql Disk Expansion ===

**SYSTEM:** sensoria-mysql.ics.uci.edu

**DATE:** 3/20/2018

**START TIME:** 2200

**DURATION:** 1 hour

**REASON:** The MySQL /data partition will be expanded.

**AFFECTS:** The MySQL database will be stopped briefly in order to unmount and expand the disk partition.



==== Andromeda/Virtualbox Updates ===

**SYSTEM:** andromeda-37.ics.uci.edu, andromeda-38.ics.uci.edu

**DATE:** 2/9/2018

**START TIME:** 2000

**DURATION:** 1 hour

**REASON:** VirtualBox updates. Installing and updating new kernel-header files.

**AFFECTS:** Machines will be rebooted and be down for a couple minutes. Users on these machines may experience downtime.
==== 66294 Zion-12 Memory and SSD ====

**SYSTEM:** zion-12.ics.uci.edu

**DATE:** 2/6/2018

**START TIME:** 1400

**DURATION:** 2 hour

**Reason**:  Install new hardware, RAM and SSD.

**Affects**:  The host will be unavailable for parts of this downtime.



==== Named Server Update ====

**SYSTEM:** ns1.ics.uci.edu ns2.ics.uci.edu

**DATE:** 1/4/2018

**START TIME:** 2:30pm

**DURATION:** 10 minutes

**Reason**:  Con added ns6.service.uci.edu into production.  Since it didn't allow internal view, our lookup to uci.edu domain would go to the root domain and hit their external view dns servers and have an odd result.  Adding forwarding zone for uci.edu to lookup from ns1.service and ns2.service resolves this issue for lookups internally.

**Affects**:  Users should not notice any difference.  It should stabilize lookups to uci.edu.


==== Linux Security Updates ====

**SYSTEM:** All Intel Base Linux Hosts

**DATE:** TBD

**START TIME:** TBD

**DURATION:** 2 hour

**Reason**:  Operating system updates are required to patch significant security vulnerability on **ALL** intel based computers.   

**Affects**:  Users will see intermittent downtime on all hosts and related services throughout the maintenance window.



==== Vagrant Update to 2.0.1 ====

**SYSTEM:** All systems where the Vagrant Package is installed.

**DATE:** 1/3/2017

**START TIME:** 1300

**DURATION:** 2 hour

**Reason**:  Routine update to the vagrant package in order to install compatibility with latest VirtualBox package.
