AFFECTS: During this downtime window, the ICS Gitlab server will be unavailable.

REASON: The PostgreSQL server used by the Gitlab server is being moved to another host where a newer version of PostgreSQL has been installed. We need about two hours to make the full conversion.

                  pgsql 9.5 -> pgsql 9.6

On Tuesday, 8/29, we will be deploying a new mail delivery agent.

Affects: During this maintenance window a new mail delivery server will replace the older mail delivery servers. Email that is delivered locally may be delayed by up to an hour during the cut over. No mail will be lost and this will will only affect email that is delivered locally.

Reason: Upgrades are required in order to replace underlying CentOS6 and Puppet2 host infrastructure.

• START TIME: 2100
• DURATION: 4 hours

(Please note this is an estimate; systems may be up sooner or later than expected, due to unforeseeable circumstances.)

AFFECTS: During this downtime window, the ICS MySQL server will be unavailable or available read-only. Dependent services such as websites may be unavailable or unable to pull up information from the MySQL server during this period.

REASON: The MySQL server is being upgraded and we need about four hours to make the full conversion. The follow MySQL Server attributes will be improved:

                CentOS6 -> CentOS7
                MySQL 5.6 -> MySQL 5.7(.18)
                4 CPUs -> 16 CPUs
                16GB RAM - > 32 GB RAM

The new MySQL sever is currently available as mysql4.ics.uci.edu. All MySQL users are encouraged to test out their applications against this new machine.

Impact: Non-disruptive yet users running virtual box VM's may need to restart.

We will be upgrading to the latest version of Virtual Box on all ICS computing.

Impact: Equipment in Rack E03 will be unavailable

The switch in Rack E03 is showing signs of failure. We will will need to reboot the switch and replace it if it doesn't come back online. This would leave hosts in this rack unavailable for a period of time.

Impact: Degraded Performance

The Schools Netapp FAS 8020 will be upgraded to the latest version of OnTAP8. The upgrade will take approximately 2 hours during which users may experience degraded performance. No downtime is expected.

Impact: Occasional service outages

Updated infromation: Due to a critical vulnerability released last week, all user accessible CentOS and Ubuntu hosts have recieved the latest OS and security updates and WILL be rebooted during this maintenance period.

~~COMPLEX_TABLES~~

Impact:

• Mail delivered to ICS Spools will be delayed.
• Mail delivered resent to off campus ISP such as ICS Gsuites will not be delayed.

The schools MailScanner will be upgraded to the latest version.

MailScanner scans email for viruses, spam, phishing, malware, and other attacks against security vulnerabilities and plays a major part in the security of a network. By virtue of being open source, the technology in MailScanner has been reviewed many times over by some of the best and brightest in the field of computer security from around the world. MailScanner supports a wide range of MTAs and virus scanners to include the popular open source Clam AV. Spam detection is accomplished via Spamassassin, which is by far the most popular and standardized spam detection engine.

Impact: Updates to Gsuite Accounts will be delayed.

The Google Dir Sync program will be updated. This program allows automation of some administrative tasks related to ICS GSuite accounts. Users should not notice any impact, however GSuite account updates may be delayed until maintenance is closed.
