Proofpoint @ ICS
Proofpoint Adoption
As part of phase 3 of OIT’s Email Security Initiative, ICS will be adopting the OIT's Proofpoint Email Security. That means that all mail addressed to @ics.uci.edu addresses will be scanned via Proofpoint Email Security before arriving on ICS email servers. All @uci.edu emails have been scanned via Proofpoint for over a year now.
Quarantine
You will be able to manage both UCI and ICS email quarantine via the same portal:
Proofpoint URL Defense/URL Rewriting
Proofpoint incorporates another layer of protection against email based threats that they call URL Defense
- URLs in emails are rewritten to point to Proofpoint's URL protection gateway at urldefense.com.
- Malicious links are redirected to a blocking page, protecting you from phishing, malware, and other threats.
- The new URLs will start with https://urldefense.com , so when you are hovering over links to guard against phishing it is important to recognize that as the safe Proofpoint system from now on.
- Links that point to *.uci.edu hosts are assumed to be safe and are not filtered for now.
Self Service Quarantine and Digest
Email will be categorized into three spam buckets, each with a different action:
- Email with malware, phishing, or spam score of 99 or higher is discarded.
- Email with spam score of 50 to 98 is moved to your Self-Service Spam Quarantine/Digest
- Email with spam score less than 50 is delivered to your email endpoint.
To review email in the spam quarantine:
- Receive a summary digest of quarantined email, daily just after midnight, with direct access to read, release, or mark as not spam.
- Use the Self-service portal to review at any time, login with your UCI single sign-on access.
